My 70-Year-Old Mom Bought These 3 Home Decor Items from Costco, and Now My Neighbors Can’t Stop Asking Where She Got Them

My mom is a decorating whiz. At 70, she still has an excellent eye for home decor. She’s always finding the perfect items to make our home look modern and stylish. Last week, she went to Costco and returned with a few groceries and decorative pieces. Although the other items were nothing special, the three out of them? Trust me! They have the neighbors buzzing!!

Since the day Mom placed these items in our home, everyone has asked where she got these unique pieces. And when she tells them it’s Costco, they say, “NO WAY!” Who knew Costco had such exquisite stuff?

Anyway, enough with the talk. Let me tell you about the three home decor items that have transformed her living space and caught everyone’s attention. These items will pair great with the fall-special Costco finds I wrote about yesterday.

Faux 6.5′ Palm Tree

“It’s like bringing a tropical vibe right into the living room,” Mom said when she showed me the palm tree. This fake tree looks so real you might think it needs watering!

The tree is tall—6.5 feet, to be exact—and has bright green leaves that look so lifelike. Although the leaves are made of plastic, they look just like the real thing. And the best part? They don’t require maintenance.

My mom doesn’t have to worry about watering, pruning, or keeping it alive. She dusts it occasionally, and it looks brand new. The tree comes in an artisan-style resin planter, which makes it look even better. It’s not too heavy either—only about 19 pounds. Mom could move it around on her own, but I helped her find the perfect spot by the window.

Our neighbour Vince, who’s always complained about killing plants, couldn’t believe it wasn’t real. He’s already asked Mom to go with him to Costco to pick one up for his living room.

Mina Victory Jute Pouf

Next up is what Mom calls her “magic seat.” It’s a round, woven jute pouf. “It’s comfy to sit on and gives the room a warm and rustic feel,” Mom says.

This pouf is made mainly from jute, a type of plant fiber. Its simple braided design goes with pretty much anything. Mom uses it as a footrest when she’s reading, but when guests come over, it’s the perfect extra seat. Sometimes, she uses it as a small snack table during movie night.

The pouf is tough, but Mom says to clean it by wiping off any spots. It’s light, so she can easily move it around the room when she wants to change things.

Kaila LED Lighted Mirror

The last item is Mom’s new favourite—a fancy mirror with lights. “I finally have my own Hollywood dressing room,” she giggled when she showed me the mirror.

This mirror is modern. It has lights all around its edges, and we can change the colour of those lights by touching a button. We can make the light warm, cool, or bright white. Mom says it helps her put on her makeup just right. The mirror also has a special feature that stops it from getting foggy after a shower.

It’s big – 24 inches by 32 inches. Mom hung it in the bathroom, but she says you could put it anywhere. It can go up and down or side to side on the wall.

The only tricky part was putting it up. We had to call an electrician to install it properly. But Mom says it was worth it, as she has been fielding calls and texts from the Neighbors about the mirror ever since. She’s even joked about charging a fee for her “Costco shopping advice.” Lol!

Mom has always had good taste, but these Costco finds have made her our neighborhood’s unofficial interior design guru.
